Potty Training with Cloth Diapers

For me, and probably most moms, potty training is a love-hate relationship. With using cloth diapers for over 3 years, I thought I was about ready to have a break from washing, scrubbing, and stuffing diapers. At the same time, a part of me still wanted my daughter to stay a "baby" and remain in her beautiful fluff.

After we moved earlier this year, I gave my cloth diapers a "final" wash, and packed up them up for "good". I was convinced that in the new house my three-year-old would finally surrender and use the potty. Boy was I wrong!

After a few months of using pull-ups I finally realized that they were not doing the trick and we were using them just the same as diapers (plus I was spending $50-$75 a month!). I accepted that I better open up my clean cloth diaper stash and continue to potty train with my cloth diapers.

Now, this is not a post about HOW to potty train. If I were writing this, my toddler would be in undies right now, which is not the case. But, using our Softbums cloth diapers has been working wonderful! If you don't know the basics about Softbums diapers, you can view some past posts HERE.

Our cloth diapers are one-size (6 lbs to 35 lbs) so they still easily fit on our toddler. We use the bamboo one-size inserts which are super absorbent. Softbums also has a dry-touch microfiber insert, which I also love, however I have been leaning towards the bamboo during potty training. The dry-touch pods are wonderful, but when a baby wets on them, it is dry to the touch (pretty much magic). This is great for babies, but for potty training it is better if they can feel being wet.

Another great tip is to try their Hybrid Pods which are disposable bamboo inserts. These are very soft and TRIM! If there are any accidents, cleaning is a breeze. There package comes with 20, which is a great amount for the price.

Washing the cloth diapers is essentially the same as when she wasn't potty training. I do however let her "help" clean them when there is poo, in hopes that she won't keep doing it in her diaper! (Don't worry we wash real good after!)

Cloth diapers have been a big part of our family. Not only budget wise, but also because our toddler has loved them. I am thrilled to continue using our Softbums stash through potty training and will be even more thrilled when she is potty trained and I can use the cloth diapers on our future baby.
